Ken, (01)
As you know, I've been working on the legal side on behalf of the
Software Collection Committee of the Computer History Museum to
secure the copyrights and other IP for NLS/Augment on behalf of CHM.
Our goal is to release it to the public domain so that people can
study the system. Doug Engelbart fully supports this effort. (02)
After a number of months, we've tracked ownership of NLS/Augment
through Boeing to British Telecom. Simon Garrett at BT believes that
ownership of NLS/Augment passed with other assets formerly from
Tymnet/Tymshare to MCI in 1993-4. (03)
Before I approach MCI/Verizon, it would be helpful to have someone on
our side who is known and can help us open doors, as Lew Platt did at
Boeing. I heard that you are acquainted with Vint Cerf. Would you
be willing to brief him on this, and ask him if he'd help us cut
through some of the red tape, get to the right person, and advocate
for us? He could make a real contribution to this project without
taking up too much of his time. (04)
Thanks in advance for your help on this. (05)
